UNI Apro Post and Logistics Committee Meeting in Hanoi, and MOU conclusion between APPU and the UNI Apro in Bangkok

UNI Apro Post & Logistics Committee Meeting held in Hanoi, Vietnam 25-26 August 2014 attracted around 40 delegates, observers, and guests across the Apro region.
This meeting dealt with “Privatization, Liberalization and Trade,” “Supply chain and Logistics,” “Relations with the UPU and the APPU on Universal Postal Service,” “Organizing,” “New services and innovation for defending universal postal service,” ”Sub-regional cooperation.” Throughout these sessions, participants exchanged their experiences on these topics, and approved “Action Plan for 2014-15” in the end of committee session.
In the opening session, Bro. Omata, President of UNI Apro Post & Logistics, said that trade unions have to make efforts to develop new services and diversify their services in cooperation with the management side for protecting postal services. Followed by him, Bro. Christopher Ng, UNI Apro Regional Secretary, encouraged unions to contribute to UNI Apro’s P&L activities.
Bro. Bui Van Hoan, President of VNUPTW, also made a greeting. Mr. Dinh, Vice President of Vietnam Post made a presentation on Vietnam Post. He said that although it is facing a lot of difficulties such as mail volume declining, maintaining employment, and wage hikes, it is strengthening sectors like mail, financial service, and communications to build up strong business base.
In the main part, the following reports were presented; three-days-a-week delivery in New Zealand, a series of ownership change of PosMalaysia, JPGU’s postal mission to EU and North America, IPO of Japan Post, negative impact of TPP, expansion of Japanese logistics company of Yamato Transportation overseas, organizing DHL workers in Indonesia and the recent victory on organizing of DHL global forwarding in Malaysia, union pluralism in Korea, Korea Post’s service offering of mobile phone, and a new MOU between the UNI Apro and the APPU. Participants engaged in serious discussions about the condition of postal trade unions.
Followed by that postal meeting, Bro. Omata and Mr. Lee, Director of APPU Bureau, signed a new MOU between the UNI Apro and the APPU in Bangkok on August 28. In the ceremony, all the participants of the UNI Apro Post & Logistics/APPC Joint Seminar sponsored by the JPGU witnessed important event of postal sector in the Apro region. In the ceremonial speeches, Bro. Omata wanted to deepen partnership with APPU in order to solve various problems of postal services. Director Lee also comments that this contributes to harmonious cooperation and staff development between these two organizations.
