UNI Europa has replied to the public consultation of the EU Commission on investment protection and investor-to-state-dispute-settlement (ISDS) in the Transatlantic Trade and Partnership Agreement (TTIP). 

UNI Europa’s reply is in line with the ETUC’s response. The ETUC response is annexed.

UNI Europa sectors and member organisations replied to the public consultation, which ends on 6 July 2014, through an online tool, which enables respondents to mark their opposition to ISDS easily and quickly in German, English and French: http://www.no2isds.eu/. 

The online tool to answer the public consultation on ISDS was developed by the ÖGB (Austrian Trade Union Federation) along with the AK (Austrian Federal Chamber of Labour).

GMB submitted its own reply to the public consultation. GMB’s reply is annexed. 

UNI Europa adopted the following position over ISDS in TTIP and other trade agreements:

“TTIP must not include an investor-state-dispute-settlement mechanism (ISDS). Investor disputes must be dealt with by the ordinary court system. Beyond TTIP, UNI Europa is strongly of the view that any existing ISDS mechanisms by-passing the court system of the EU and member states must be abolished; this applies in particular to ISDSs between individual EU member states. ISDS mechanisms have become quasi-kangaroo courts biased against the public interest.”
