Women's Day Celebration with UNI India LC
This is a summary of the celebration of International Women`s Day by UNI ILC affiliates in various parts of India.
South India
Sis.Thenmozhi, a member of AIBOBEF, says that the Bank of Baroda branch in Chennai had invited women entrpreneures supported by the bank to participate in the celebrations held on 8th March 2014. The women were honoured with flowers as they shared their experiences of battle and success in the world of business.
In Thiruvananthpuram, Kerala, Sis. Ajithakumari from FNPO and her colleagues participated in a “She Walk” which aims to project the importance of security for women and oppose violence against women. About 4000 women from all age groups and different walks of life participated in this event.
Western India
In Aurangabad, a city about 200 km away from Mumbai, Sis.Ranjana Lele and Sis.Vasanti Kasture, members of AIBOBEF, organised a women`s day celebration with the support of Bank of Baroda. Both Ranjana and Vasanti had participated in the UNI Apro National Women`s Empowerment Program held in Mumbai in 2013 and were excited to organise the IWD event. The team invited and felicitated women achievers to the event and honored women in the medical profession and from the Police department.
In Mumbai, AIBOBEF celebrated the IWD with a program for women and special guests, Chief Lady Liaison Officer of the SH Committee. Deputy General Manager Ms.Rukmini explained the provisions and meaning of The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. Ms.Sonal Khanolkar, an award winning editor of multiple magazines, talked about the need of assertiveness in women and gave tips about confidence building.The program was conducted young members of AIBOBEF and Sis.Sharada Bangera played a major role in organising this program.
In Mumbai, the President of FNPO,Bro.Rahate reported the opening of an all women Post Office in Lalbaug, Central Mumbai, on 8th March 2014.This post office will have a full team of women staff and will offer all the traditional and modern postal services.
In Pune, Shruti Avadhane from AIBOBEF reported that IWD program was organised. There was a talk about Women`s Health by experts and also a talk and demonstration on Pranic Healing.The younger participants had also organised some games.
The ladies wing of AIBOBOA, inaugarated on 23 Februrary 2014, held its first program on IWD to celebrate the special day. On top of music and games, Sis.Ashwini Kulkarni, Chief Convenor of ladies wing of AIBOBOA, said that participants sat in on a talk about women's health. AIBOBOA prepared a present to each lady member who participated in the program.
Eastern India
In Kolkata, insurance union AINLIEF also organised a IWD program organised by Paromita Adhikary, Sangita Deyati and Sutapa Banerjee – participants of the UNI Apro Empowerment Courses in 2013. The ladies shared their experiences and take backs from UNI programs as well as their thoughts about the role of women in the family, society and trade unions. Women participants were all greeted with a flower each and men were also invited to attend the discussions.
