Franca Salis Madinier re-elected as UNI Europa ICTS President
Franca Salis Madinier was re-elected as President of UNI Europa ICTS as a successful sector conference came to a close in Rome.
Salis Madinier, who serves as National Secretary of the CFDT Cadre union in France, an organisation with more than 90000 members, was unanimously re-elected and will serve a second four-year term as President.
Elections were also held for the positions of Vice President, with the incumbents Peter Helberg of Unionen (Sweden), Andy Kerr of CWU (UK), and Michael Jaekel of Ver.di (Germany) all returning for a further term.
Accepting the position of President, Salis Madinier said, “Europe has the largest ICTS workforce in the world. We have the power to make the most meaningful change with the right strategies.
“We can lead the world in delivering fair conditions for ICTS workers. We need to understand this power and use it. We have the responsibility to work together to deliver this change, and I am determined to lead with your support.”
UNI Europa is the voice of 2 million ICTS members and Salis Madinier’s is well equipped for her demanding role. Her position at CFDT Cadre puts her in charge of international affairs, corporate social responsibility, the inclusion of young professionals and managers, equality, and work-life management issues. A former employee of Orange France Telecom, Madinier maintains a seat on the company’s global committee.
Earlier, Head of ICTS Alan Tate presented UNI Europa’s Breaking Through action plan for the next four year term, which was unanimously accepted by delegates. UNI ICTS underlined its commitment to being a proactive, innovative, effective and inclusive organisation, with a particular focus on building trade union power in multinational companies,
“We are committed to organising in the ICTS sector, which we know will be critical in the future world of work.
“We are confident that UNI ICTS can lead the way in building new union strength in Europe and beyond. We want to break through for workers everywhere.”
Earlier the summit heard from UNI Europa Regional Secretary Oliver Roethig on the challenges facing the ICTS sector in Europe. Delegates from UIL in Italy, HST in Croatia and CFDT of France held an exchange on growing union strength in Europe. Brian Healy of CWU-UK reported on activities in European telecom, Claude Lambrechts of CNE delivered a presentation on EU lobbying on gender equality.
Delegates also heard from Barbora Novotna from the Grand Coalition on Digital Jobs, as well as Emmanuel Reich of Syndex, who reported on investment in jobs.
