Italy: October 31st strike in the financial sector - UNI support
Unions, and FABI on the frontline, are holding a "one day" general strike on October 31st. It will be the first general strike in the Financial Sector in 13 years.
This is in reaction to the fact that on September 16, ABI, the Italian Banking Association, cancelled the Collective Agreement for the entire Banking Sector signed on January 2012 and valid until June 2014.

Lando Maria Sileoni Secretary General of FABI the largest Union in the Banking Sector, declared "It is a clear attack to workers' rights, and to a successful industrial relations system that avoided heavy social impacts on workers' conditions and resulted in well managed employment levels in recent years"
Instead of leaving more than 330 thousand banks employees without a contract as well as threatening thousands of new job cuts, Unions have asked bankers to reduce bonuses and wages of their top managers who earn 100 times more than the average employee, putting a limit of 600 thousand euro, for at least two years.
