Our colleagues in the CWU (United Kingdom) are embarking on the first national strike in 11 years.



The reason for the strike is pay and changes to working conditions.



Royal Mail’s business plan is to cut postal services and also cut the pay and working conditions of all the postal workers.



Royal Mail’s pay offer is only 2.5% against annual inflation of 4.5% which represents a real cut in the living standards of UK postal workers.



UK postal workers have now had enough and over 70% voted in favour of taking industrial action to protect their future.



Royal Mail has failed to negotiate seriously with the union and has left little option open to the CWU but to take industrial action.



The first of the strikes will take place tomorrow, (29 June) for 24 hours and further strikes within the next two weeks if no agreement is made.
