Seminar or Disputes and Collective Bargaining for UNI Youth held

The “Collective Bargaining and Dispute Settlement in MERCOSUR” seminar/workshop – organised by UNI Youth Argentina – was held at Hotel Riviera Faecys, in Mar del Plata, on 18-19 December 2007.



The event was attended by about 50 members of UNI Americas Youth, and was conducted by Rubén Cortina, President of UNI Americas, and Verónica Fernández Méndez and Pedro Schiuma, from ALEARA’s Vocational Training and Culture Bureau.

Rubén Cortina and Hernán Gómez, President of UNI Americas and UNI Americas Youth, respectively, were in charge of the opening ceremony, which was followed by the former’s presentation, touching upon two issues: Globalisation and Regional Integration, and Collective Bargaining in MERCOSUR.
On the second day, Verónica Fernández Méndez, a social psychologist and ALEARA’s Vocational Training and Culture Secretary, addressed the issues of disputes and communication through a seminar and workshop. The goal was to provide new tools to deal with and settle labour disputes, and to teach communication and leadership skills and how to coordinate working teams, which was successfully achieved thanks to the young participants’ active involvement and the various techniques applied.



Finally, attorneys Mr. and Mrs. Slavin addressed these issues from the legal point of view, thus providing the last tools required in order to face mediation and collective bargaining processes in MERCOSUR.



At the end of the event, the attendees decided to create the UNI Youth Mar del Plata network. The exchange of experiences deeply enriched our daily union work.
