After collective contract negotiations between the UNI affiliate Ver.di and Deutsche Post broke down Sunday, there are more warning strikes being undertaken in nine mail centres Monday 21 April, in Berlin, Dresden, Duisburg, Freising, Hamburg, Hannover, Mainz, Stuttgart and Wiesbaden. Andrea Kocsis, Deputy Ver.di Chairperson said; "This is the immediate answer of the workers to Deutsche Post's continual unacceptable demands. The workers are fuming." She said that, "Two billion Euros of profit, 20 per cent higher dividend, 90 per cent of share of the market and then to demand that the employees of the enterprise should work effectively between 2.5 and 3.5 hours per week longer is both immoral and inequitable. "



Ver.di has been demanding proper compensation for proposal to increase weekly working hours from 38.5 to 41 hours for 55.000 employees. Also after Deutsche Post asked that the subject of pay rates was also included in the last round of negotiations Ver.di demanded a 7% increase with a term of twelve months. Because of the negative response from the company, from the 25th to the 29th of April a strike ballot will be undertaken for unlimited strike action from 2 May.
