Ann Field, Unite National Officer, said: “This is an unusual step for us to take, but it is the only avenue open to us to stop Dolan leaving our members in limbo, without any of their unpaid wages, notice pay or redundancy pay. Unite believes Butler and Tanner have abused the goodwill of the workforce and left them high and dry.”

The workforce of Butler and Tanner Printers Ltd were informed by post that the company had closed and is going into receivership owing the workers thousands of pounds in unpaid wages and deducted pension contributions.

Stuart North, Senior Unite Representative, said: "Our letters of dismissal told us the company would be put into voluntary liquidation. But we have watched people coming in and out of the plant and know that agency workers are working on machines in the plant. All we can see is our wages and pension money disappearing. We believe it is not right for the state and the tax payer to foot this bill."

Following contact with the Pension Regulator about the pension contributions, the Regulator has confirmed that a file has been opened to investigate the company and the missing pension contributions.
