Philip Jennings, UNI Global Union General Secretary, wrote to the UN Secretary General, the Prime Minister of the UK, as current chair of the G20, the President of the European Commission and President of the European Council, as well as to the heads of the ILO, FSF, IMF, OECD, World Bank and WTO.



The General Secretary called for a new business model that is customer-orientated and risk-conscious, sustainable and long-term: "At its foundation is full transparency of internal operating procedures and practices so that good advice to customers can be ensured. We see a structured dialogue of unions and other stakeholders with companies and financial supervisors at all levels as key."



The letters contained the statement of UNI Finance Global Union on “Key elements of Reforming the Financial System” that sets out UNI's principle proposals and the more detailed key issues paper “For a Responsible and Sustainable Finance Industry”. Matters addressed are:

• Employees at the centre of responsible and sustainable finance industry.
• A bottom-up approach to supervision and transparency.
• Restructuring and remuneration.
• Stabilising and reforming the financial system.
• Financial education.

Jennings asked that these positions should be taken into account in the future work on the financial crisis and the reform process of the financial system.
