Palestine: workshop for the Printing and Publishing Union

The Syndicate of Printing, Publishing and Media Labourers organized a workshop, with the participation of women’s committee coordinators at sub-syndicates in the northern provinces, and was held at the Palestinian-Danish Education Center in Ramallah.
The workshop, which was held under the patronage of the American Center for International Labour Solidarity, was attended by Shah Saad, General Secretary of Palestine’s Labourers Syndicate Union; Amna Al-Reemawi, Chairman of Women’s department at the Union; and Ali Al Santrisi, Chairman of the General Syndicate for Printing, Publishing & Media Labourers.
In his opening speech, Saad stressed upon the importance of women’s role at sub-syndicates and the importance of organizing and educating them in order to enable them to defend their rights and participate strongly in the labour market.
He explained that the union is paying more attention to education and training, adding that it is endeavouring, in association with Arab and International unions, to deploy a large number of educational projects in developing the skills of syndicate members and labourers in various fields.
Ali Al Santrisi highlighted the importance of women’s organizations in the fields of printing, publishing and media, and promotion of collective working deals that would organize women’s work in media establishments. He stressed upon the role of education in lifting up printing and publishing labourers’ awareness in order to preserve their health and safety at printing presses, where chemical substances and inks are used extensively. He asked the participating coordinators of the women’s committees to achieve the workshop’s goals and form a permanent communication mechanism that would allow the exchange of news and information and increase the number of female members in the syndicate.
