UNI is breaking through for peace. Together with Japanese trade union organisation RENGO and GENSUIKIN (Japan Congress Against A- and H-Bombs), KAKKIN (National Council for Peace and AgainstNuclear Weapons) and the International Trade Union Confederation, we are part of an international campaign against nuclear weapons.
We aim to present this petition to United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the May 2010 UN meeting to review the Nuclear non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
UNI Global Union is making peace a major focus of its work as it approaches its world congress in Nagasaki, Japan, in November 2010.
We want 2010 to be a year where we make a real break-through towards a nuclear-free world. With our Global Union action we can re-shape the world through our human activity.
Our work to provide the tools for working people to have decent work, a decent job that enables individual and family income security to sustain life must be built on the bedrock of peace, tolerance and understanding.
This petition is a chance to add millions of voices to the global campaign for an end to nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction. We believe that the world needs to take urgent action to stop the spread of nuclear weapons, and to make the world free of nuclear weapons, as part of the overall drive for worldwide peace and the transfer of military spending to socially-useful ends.
Please take a moment to sign the petition and to send it to your friends. Please consider sending a message to all of your members as well and ask them to join this global campaign to abolish nuclear weapons and create a safer world for future generations.
You can make a difference by signing this petition and then sending it to your colleagues, family and friends.
