UNI elected to UPU CC Management Committee

At the Universal Postal Union (UPU) Consultative Committee meeting held in Bern Switzerland today, UNI Post & Logistics has been elected as a member of the Management Committee of the UPU CC. UNI Post & Logistics already Chairs the UPU CC Working Group on Sustainable Development and now has been elected as a member of the Management Committee in it's own right. The CC also discussed the Sustainabble Development project that UNI is leading and presentations were given on the HIV/AIDS project being run with UNI Global Union, the ILO, UN AIDS and the UPU. Esther Bares, UNI P&L Research Assistant presented the progress to date and told the meeting that the next phase of the project was even more important as it was designed to help employees of the Post to deal with AIDS issues in the workplace.
The project has involved seven pilot countries so far, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroun, China, Brazil, Estonia and Mali, where UNI affiliates have been involved in developing the programme.
Other issues the CC dealt with were the movement to develop a global addressing system that would give everyone in the world a unique postal address. This is a huge project that will help the postal industry to develop new and innovative products. Revenue protection to ensure posts are able to gain full advantage from their products and services is also another issue the CC is tackling.
Now that UNI has taken it's place on the Management Committee, the sustainable development project will move forward to try and highlight best practices in the postal industry to improve the environment, on recycling and a greener world, as well as tackling the social issues that make a sustainable postal industry. This will involve not only Post Offices, but also the other members of the CC which includes the express mail companies, global delivery and logistics companies, direct mailers and the private sector players in the postal industry.
Head of UNI Post & Logistics, Neil Anderson, commenting in Bern after the election said, "UNI Post & Logistics represents workers throughout the industry and it is a great recognition by the industry for the role UNI is playing to ensure a better world for postal workers and postal companies. UNI thanks sincerely the CC members for their vote of confidence in UNI's ability to work with them to ensure quality jobs and quality services for the customers."
