Moving forward - 2nd UNI Youth World Conference

" LET THE WORLD CHANGE YOU AND YOU CAN CHANGE THE WORLD"
The second UNI Youth World Conference took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 28-30 October 2009. The theme of the conference was "Global Solidarity" and the agenda for the conference clearly represented this theme.
Items such as Organising, Youth Participation, Networking and Communications were all featuring prominently on the agenda.
The World Youth Conference was officially opened by the Malaysian Minister for Youth and Sports, Minister YB Dato Ahmad Shabery Cheek, the Malaysian Liason Council President, Brother Mohammad Shafie BP Mammal and the UNI Youth World President, Keith Pollard.
There were a total of 139 participants from over 30 countries worldwide in attendance meaning a broad range of presentations and speakers on various issues affecting young people.
Presentations were given on the work being carried out by UNI Youth throughout the World. Including UNI Europa Youth's presentation on Decent Work, Organising campaigns in Australia and New Zealand, to the charitable work being carried out by the Philippine Liaison Council Youth in the Payata's to name but a few.
During the conference, delegates broke into working groups to discuss and formulate plans for UNI Youth on topics such as Organising Young Workers, Networking, Communications and Youth participation. The outcomes of these working groups contributed towards the contents of UNI Youth's Action and Strategic Plan for the next four years.
A copy of the new UNI Youth Action and Strategic plan will be published shortly for all the affiliates on the UNI Youth website.
In the lead up to the Conference there were five motions submitted to UNI Youth by the affiliate unions for discussion at the conference. The motions were on the following subjects.
1. 100% Youth Coordinator
2. Free Education
3. The Financial Crisis
4. Youth Representation For the UNI World Congress in Nagasaki
5. The Environment
A copy of the adopted motions will shortly be available on the UNI Youth Webpage and these adopted motions also form an integral part of the UNI Youth Action and Strategic plan which was unanimously adopted by the Conference delegates.
Finally, we would like to thank all the delegates who were in attendance at the conference for all their contributions, their participation and their work which culminated in making the conference such a success.
