UNI Apro Youth BOLEH!

This year, more than 50 participants from 10 different countries from the region attended the workshop and were put into various challenging tasks and scenarios. The workshop was officially opened and graced by the presence of distinguished trade union leaders, Mr. Christopher Ng, Regional Secretary, UNI Apro, Mr. Norinaka Takeuchi, Chairperson of UNI LCJ Postal & Telecom Sector and Mr. Mohd. In the workshop, participants had to overcome the difficulties in the language as English is not the first language of all the participants and everyone spoke in multiple slangs/ accents and from the ‘Queen’s English’ to the ‘American English’.
Triumph seized the day for all the participants where non verbal forms of communications soon developed sophistication among them. From signs of encouragement in giving a pat on a groupmate’s shoulders to a fist in the air with the words of ‘UNI BOLEH!’ or a simple thumb up to show a job well done or even drawing pictures at the self introduction prove just as effective as tools of communication if not better!

Going into the 4th day of the workshop, Discovery@ UNI Apro proved to be the greatest task the participants had to undertake as a group. Under the KL scorching sun (despite being the rainy season, we were blessed with lots of sunshine), groups were given challenging task to plan their route in observing globalization in KL city only via public transport of bus or trains as well as to work within a tight budget. They equipped themselves with time and resource management skills and also to cope with the interests of various group members among themselves who are from different cultures and backgrounds. Nevertheless, the groups finished strong and gave their final reports the next day on their assignment with some staying up till 3am in the morning!!
The highlight of the workshop was none other than the Sayonara Nite (farewell night). Having earlier gave their country activities’ reports during the workshop, the YOUth once again showcased the best of their talents at the farewell dinner. The workshop came to a high closing when everyone chorused “Only One Flower in the World”!
