Breaking through now – say UNI affiliates in Moscow
More than 30 leaders of UNI affiliates from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine came together on the 17th and 18th of December in Moscow to discuss organizing experiences and develop action plan to stand against the financial crisis which caused the real, hard problems for the workers.
“We are well aware, that increasing the union’s power is a great challenge for us. We are ready to fight”, said UNI World Executive Board member, the chair of the Communication Workers Trade Union of Russia, Anatoly Nazeykin.
UNI affiliates consider organizing in global companies and signing of the Global agreements as the most important objective, that requires solidarity and alliances of the sister trade unions around the globe, including the countries of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
It is vital to overcome anti-union practices and ensure union growth in such global companies as Metro Group, Inditex, Telia Sonera, VimpelKom, MTS, MMP, France Telecom, HSBC, DHL, Sberbank, etc. The solidarity statement with new born trade union in MoldCell (subsidiary of Swedish-based mobile phone giant TeliaSonera) was adopted. The union has been created in Moldova less than a month ago, but its members are already facing pressure from the management of the company.
“Building union networks in the global companies such as TeliaSonera is a key to the union growth for UNI Telecom, and our union will continue to support the organising efforts of our sister unions in the countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, - said SEKO’s Bjorn Lind.
The UNI affiliates has also discussed the forthcoming UNI Congress in Nagasaki in November 2010.
“We have done a lot, we have built strong basis for the further trade union growth in the countries of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia – the region with a great opportunities and potential for the UNI’s growth. Today we need the breakthrough, globally, regionally and in each country, in each union, said UNI’s Olga Vinogradova.
