Last year, Fujitsu proposed 1,000 redundancies in the UK last year, following a pay freeze and plans to close the company’s pension scheme, reducing employees’ remuneration by around 20%.



Unite members voted in favour of strike action late last year.



A one day strike took place on 18 December. It was the first ever national strike in the IT sector in the UK.



In addition, Unite is calling into question whether a disproportionate number of women, part-time and ethnic minority workers may have been selected for redundancy.

In January, shoppers in Belfast city centre were leafleted by striking workers. They also protested outside Marks and Spencer as well as other firms which use Fujitsu as their IT provider.





Unite members in the UK have carried out 10 days of strike action with a further two strike days planned in a dispute over jobs, pay and pensions. The dispute is now at a critical stage with the UK government conciliation service ACAS involved in seeking to find a resolution.
