16 union leaders from the Mumbai region participated in a seminar on Organizing in Multi national Companies, particularly in the Pune Industrial zone.



Bro Madan Talwar, Treasurer of the AINEF opened the Seminar and said that it was critical that as a union we continue to organize workers across those multinationals which have been targeted by UNI Graphical. He said in the Pune region in particular there was much potential for growth and this seminar would assist in developing those strategies necessary to recruit workers.



Steve Walsh as Head of Department for UNI Graphical spoke about the importance of establishing networks across all sites of these multinationals as it would only be through strong networks that we will be able to achieve our target for Global Agreements.



Leif Mettavainio and Ronny Larsson, from the Swedish union GS attended the seminar and spoke about their Unions’ commitment to supporting projects such as this one in the Asia and Pacific region.



The seminar broke into 2 workgroups and developed strategies for organizing in these multinationals; they identified some of the barriers that workers are presented with when they want to join a union.



Participants committed to a 6 month plan and have undertaken to meet among themselves each month to review the plans and to monitor progress.



It is this commitment by union activists in India that will bring about the organization of workers in Multi National companies in the Graphical Sector.
