The workshop on “organizing course for women” was organized by the UNI NLC women committee from 4-6 June, 2010. The course had the twenty four female participants from 12 affiliate union of UNI NLC. The workshop had mainly focused in addressing the issues of women as trade union rights of women, gender equality and work life balance.

A panel discussion was held in work life balance issues. During the session, many problems of women workers came out which were very heart touching to hear. Really, the position of women in maintaining work life balance is miserable, somewhere because of lack of family support and somewhere of lack of organizational support. It is the case of Nepal and might be the same for the other south Asian countries as the cultural constrictions are very high in the south Asian countries. The triple role (productive, reproductive and community) is really tough to handle. And conclusively, the workshop ended with the adoption that the respective unions will be strongly demanded for the child care center in every organization and enough maternity leave .And for that the women were convinced to organize more women into the trade union so that or voice become stronger enough to be heard from concerned organization.



UNI NLC women conference 2010



The 3rd UNI NLC women conference was successfully held in June 6, 2010 in Bhaktapur. The conference got the new executive committee of women. There were twelve delegates form the twelve affiliate union of NLC.

The conferences adopted some of the future priorities for carrying out the activities in the upcoming year. Some of the priorities were:

・ Organizing , our main priority

・ Image building of the union

・ Trade union rights of women

・ Work life balance



The future activities conducted by the new executive committee will be guided by the above listed priorities.The executive body consisted of the following elected candidates as:



President : Meena Neupane (Financial institution employee’s union of Nepal)

Vice-President : Dipa Bharadwaj (UNICOME)

Secretary : Kamala Neupane (UPSIN)

Joint secretary : Sita wosti (Telecom employees association of Nepal)

Treasurer : Sarala prava jonchhe (Nepal Telecom Worker’s union)

Joint treasurer : Sandhya silwal (UNI PRESS)
