Toronto, CANADA -- Leaders of Mexico's independent trade union movement have gathered in Toronto before the G8/G20 summit to share their stories of repression and struggle with labour leaders from others parts of the world.



The goal of the "Building Solidarity with the Democratic Labour Movement in Mexico" forum is to organise strategies in response to the crisis in Mexico.



The conference is being sponsored by UNI Global Union, three of Canada’s largest private sector unions CEP, USW, CAW as well as two other global unions the ICEM and IMF.



“Workers are coming to share their stories of unprecedented violence and repression,” said Dave Coles, president of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada. “Mexico is a NAFTA country, yet the Canadian and U.S. governments are ignoring these basic human rights abuses.”
