According to information distributed in Germany, METRO is looking to create two SSCs (Shared Service Centres) – one in Asia and one in Eastern Europe. More than 3,000 employees globally, about 700 of which in Germany, are affected. The implementation of this process is likely to lead to a reduction of employment by about 400 in Germany and another 400 globally.



So far the information provided by Metro regarding the justification for creating and the facts about the SSCs have been mostly about cutting costs while at the same time, the company tells its workers that the main reason for creating the SSCs is that it will improve the quality of service.



The German works council, the employee representatives on the supervisory board as well as UNI have asked company management to provide more information on the planned cuts and to explain what the long-term strategy is regarding further centralization and outsourcing of services.
