All India Radio and Doordarshan, the National television network of India, were government organisations until they were coverted into Prasar Bharati, Broadcasting Corporation of India. Contrary to expectations, this convertion did not enhance the free functioning of the organisation nor did it benefit the public, as due to this action the company is no longer financially viable to cater to the needs of the nation as the national public service broadcaster.



NFADE with its member organisations have made frequent demands to the government to repeal the Prasar Bharati Act to ensure sustainable funding as well as better working conditions for the employees. They have launched a 48 hour boycott from 23 to 25 November, which has resulted in All India Radio and Doordarshan being currently off air. Another boycott is planned for 13-16 December.



UNI MEI supports NFADE and UNI affiliate ARTEE in their demand to repeal Prasar Bharati Act and calls on the Indian government to enter into dialogue with the unions over the future of All India Radio and Doordarshan.
