Northern Ireland employment and Learning Minister, Danny Kennedy, today launched a public consultation aimed at providing fairer treatment for temporary agency workers.



The public consultation on the Agency Workers Directive invites views on both the policy proposals and the draft regulations which will implement this Directive in Northern Ireland.



It opens the debate on how fairer treatment for temporary agency workers in Northern Ireland should be promoted and implemented, and invites discussion on some of the complex provisions of the Directive.



Minister Kennedy said: “Agency work provides workers with a valued route into employment, whilst at the same time giving employers the flexibility to respond to changing business needs.  It is important, however, that the right balance is struck between maintaining this flexibility for businesses and ensuring fair treatment for agency workers.  This consultation will provide an opportunity for workers and businesses alike to give their views on how the aims of the Directive can be best achieved.”
