|
Santiago. A delegation composed of Spanish union leaders from the private security sector related with the Iberian multinational Prosegur, as well as a team of UNI Global Union officers from the Head Office in Nyon and from UNI America’s Office located in Panama, made a visit to Santiago de Chile on February 21st with the objective, among others, of promoting the possible signature of a Global Agreement with the above-mentioned company, in order to guarantee the workers’ right to organise themselves in unions; to enable them to collectively negotiate their interests and provide Decent Work conditions in every country where Prosegur operates and develops its activities. During the visit to Chile, Rafael López González and Juan López Mañez (CC.OO.), Francisco Sánchez and Isidro Campo (UGT), Antonio Duarte Alvarez and María José Díaz (USO), Alice Dale (UNI Property Services’ Head of Department), Raúl Requena (UNI Americas Regional Secretary), Alberto Barrow (UNI Americas Property Services Regional Director) and Benjamin Parton (researcher), respectively held meetings with members of the management of Prosegur Ltd. Workers’ Union, and the Union of Workers of Prosegur Chile Ltd. as part of the effort to build a strong alliance which might transcend frontiers and reaffirm the purpose to achieve a Global Agreement to guarantee the respect towards Prosegur workers’ rights. Following the same course of action, the delegation made direct contact with groups of workers in their work-sites, to get first-hand information on their working conditions. This exercise enabled an interesting exchange of experiences and provided elements which reinforce the content of the proposal UNI Global union has submitted to Prosegur’s Head Office for consideration, with the aim of achieving fair treatment and quality jobs for the workers around the world. This objective was transmitted with absolute clarity to the Chilean branch Human Resources Manager, Lucía Sánchez, at a meeting held by the end of the day, on February 21st, at Santiago de Chile’s central premises.
