Message to UNI-Europa Youth

Dear sisters and brothers,



after the devastating earthquake and tsunami the people from Japan are shocked, but the whole world is shocked, too. Houses were destroyed which used to be the homes of lots of families. Factories and buildings don´t exist any longer which used to be workplaces for people. Infrastructure was cut, ways to existential supply like energy, water and food.



The humanitarian catastrophe by the earthquake is overshadowed by the explosion of the nuclear power stations in Fukushima. There is a big fear of a potential nuclear disaster and nobody can imagine what the consequences of the radioactivity may be and what the life ‘after’ will look like.



UNI Europa Youth already sent a solidarity message to the Japanese unions.



In the name of UNI-Europa Youth I would like to call for your support:

- Talk about what you can do for the people, the workers, our sisters and brothers in Japan in your unions and do it.

- Follow the calls for donation, which support the humanitarian organisations and organisations which will work on the rebuilding of Japan. UNI Global Union have created a special bank account for you to make donations that will go directly to unions in Japan for this purpose. The details are:

- Reactivate the debate on nuclear power in your countries, talk about alternative working places for the people and try to achieve the shutdown of the nuclear power stations all over Europe.
