Presentation of the two cooling fans to the centre
UNI Europa Youth Steering Group recently took part in a mission to the Payatas in the Philiipines.
The Payatas project is supported by UNI Youth and with the help of UNI Philippine Liaison Council Youth who are on the ground to support.
Since the World Youth Conference in Malaysia, UNI Youth have been fundraising for the Payatas and the UNI Europa Youth team decided to undertake a mission to see the conditions that children and their parents live in. The mission was to "make a difference" to the children by giving them a day to remember for the rest of their lives.
Upon arrival we took toys and 50 sets of school bags with stationery and educational material with a raincoat for each child to the centre and made an official hand-over along with some fans.
For the day trip, we took 30 Children to a Zoo and a amusement park (Starcity). It was thrilling to see them get so excited to see a 50 seater coach and take their first ride in a coach… Not even the rain could dampen the excitement of the children.
The smiles on the faces of the children showed that the work being done by the UNI PLC Youth in the Payatas is a worthy cause that needs to continue in the foreseeable future.
The steering group have their own experiences of the Payatas, which will bring a tear to the eye and make you realise what we take for granted is a luxury to the children of the Payatas. Some of these experiences will be posted on the website soon.
The UNI Europa Youth have committed to support the project and maybe even make a return trip in the future. As a first step, we agreed that we would fund children's scholarships for 6 months and also repair the crumbling roof of the Payatas centre.
A thank you to all those who contributed to the Payatas fund and the work will continue..
