New action plan for the UNI Americas Finance

The meeting was held at the headquarters of Contraf/CUT, the Brazilian confederation of finance sector workers, in São Paulo. One of the main points debated was the implementation of the resolutions of the 3rd UNI Global Congress that took place last November in Nagasaki, Japan. The demands go from the financial system regulation, increasing of unionization, and the union actions related to the multinationals. The representatives decided to prioritize actions at the following banks in the region: Itau, Santander, HSBC, Scotiabank (Canada) and Bancolombia.
“We approved an action plan that takes into account the participations of unions. There are several planned actions for the second semester such as a seminar about the financial system, which will be in Chile, and we count on the participation of everybody”, stated Marcio Monzane, the new head of UNI Finance, who took part in the meeting.
UNI Americas Finance also approved action plans discussed by the international meetings of Itau and Santander union committees. Newsletters will be written and handed to workers of these banks on a new international action day between the 21 and the 25 of November with activities in all the countries where these groups operate.
The new regional secretary of UNI Americas, Adriana Rosenzvaig, highlighted the importance of debating the role of the financial system and praised the work of the trade union networks in the organization of workers for global framework agreements.
Another issue debated was the project of collective negotiations proposed by Contraf/CUT. “The idea is to create a data bank with information from all unions in the continent about the situation of workers in each country. It will concentrate socio-economic data, information about collective agreements, legislation concerning working time, employment and industrial relations” pointed the president of UNI Americas Finance, Carlos Cordeiro.
During the meeting, the new regional director of UNI Finance, André Luis Rodrigues was introduced to the participants. He’ll take the position previously held by Monzane.
