In a letter, global union EI gives its full support to the global union campaign to ensure Deutsche Telekom respects US workers’ right to organise at its subsidiary T-Mobile USA. US managers have engaged in a vicious anti-union campaign against workers trying to join the Communication Workers of America (CWA).



“We respectfully request that Deutsche Telekom take a concrete step to demonstrate respect for the rights of its workers by implementing a position of full neutrality with regard to the organising efforts of T-Mobile USA workers and by allowing workers the freedom to participate in union activities without fear of reprisals or job loss,” said EI General Secretary Fred van Leeuwen in a letter to Deutsche Telekom CEO Rene Obermann. “T-Mobile USA workers deserve to be afforded the same rights as their German counterparts as they work with the company through the acquisition process and beyond.”



Van Leeuwen also called on Obermann to respect union rights at all its businesses around the world.



Sixty-seven education unions from 44 countries co-signed the letter with Van Leeuwen. They pledged their support to work with CWA, German union ver.di, UNI Global Union, the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the other global union federations on the campaign for union rights at T-Mobile USA and for all Deutshe Telekom workers across the globe.
