On 6 and 7 December, trade unions from Central Eastern Europe, Cyprus, Malta and Turkey have met employers organisations to debate the possibilities for developing social dialogue in their respective countries.



Whereas in some countries like Slovak Republik, Hungary or Czeck Republik, national collective bargaining is now part of the day-to-day agenda, some countries find it hard to enter in dialogue with their counterpart.



In Romania, the recent legislative change has a disastrous effect on social dialogue by puting drastic barriers to the official recognition of trade unions and employers organisations. In Poland, employers reject social dialogue to benefit from social dumping.



"Our priority is to reinforce the organising capacity of our affiliated organisations" says Fabrice Warneck, UNI Europa Policy Officer for Commerce "because without members, no strengh to demand negotiations".



This seminar is the final meeting after one year of work in cooperation between UNI Europa and ILO-ITC (actrav), with the financial support of the EU Commission. Next year, thanks to the UNI Europa affiliated unions contribution, specific work to organise multinational company workers in the area will be developed in commerce.
