Yesterday, the Universal Postal Union’s Council of Administration approved a resolution on postal innovation for final consideration at the UPU’s October Congress in Doha. UNI Post & Logistics submitted the proposal after its special workshop on innovation in the sector in Washington last September.





Submitted through the UPU’s Consultative Committee, where UNI holds a seat, the proposal recognizes the role postal workers can play in developing new, innovative products and services. “This is a great opportunity for postal workers to contribute to the evolution of the industry,” Head of Department Neil Anderson said. “No one knows postal customers like the workers themselves. This resolution will allow workers an input into the growth strategy of the industry and help secure postal jobs around the world.”



The proposal calls upon the Postal Operations Council of the UPU to make innovation a theme of its work in the next four-year cycle and to highlight best practices in innovative products and services in its meetings. It also instructs the UPU’s International Bureau to solicit information from postal workers, member countries and the Consultative Committee – where non-state and non-operator stakeholders are represented.



UNI encourages all affiliates to support this important proposal and to ask their governments and postal operators to do the same.
