UNI Europa re-launches P&M work



UNI Europa Professionals & Managers (P&M) affiliates met during a conference in Paris on 1-2 March 2012 to re-launch their activities. With P&M representing a growing workforce globally, UNI Europa and its affiliates want to be proactive and focus on organising P&M and promoting their interests across different industry sectors.



The Paris conference was the forum for a fresh start for P&M with a new team and Presidency. Affiliates said goodbye to UNI Europa P&M’s long-standing President Jean-Paul Bouchet (CFDT-Cadres) and former UNI P&M Head of department Gerd Rohde, thanking both for their commitment throughout the years. Newly elected P&M President Martin Jefflén (Unionen) will succeed and work, together with a new steering committee and staff, on the concrete re-launch of UNI Europa P&M activities. The group’s future priorities focus on innovation, diversity, recruitment of young members, promotion of alternative management models and improving Work-Life-Management.



P&M are crucial for innovation and for solutions to today’s problems. With growth in jobs being mostly within P&M grades, UNI Europa will take the opportunity to push for more organising among P&M. Key issues for future P&M work are the engagement with youth members globally; a better gender representation and the mainstreaming of P&M interests into the UNI Europa sectors. The development of professional networks and an increased use of social media are other objectives that were discussed. In this context, reference was made to the CFDT Cadres manifesto on global agreements and P&M’s responsibility. Another topic that was identified as crucial for organizing women & youth into P&M is Work-Life-Management and the need to raise awareness about its link to P&M`s workload and responsibility. In this respect, a successful UNI Europa P&M project was presented that provides concrete recommendations to trade unions on the implementation of Work-Life-Management strategies for their P&M members.
