This is a first in Ghana. From 3 to 5 June 2012, 60 young workers including 18 young women met at the training center of the union. For 2 days, they worked at the establishment of their national structure.
Although mentioned in the statutes, the national committee had not taken form. The youth were organized at regional level. This organization does not allow them to participate in national elections.
The elected board has six members including one woman. She is the National President and is called Abena Agyeman Boakye.
After the presentation of the union of its history, its vision, its structure and functions, three presentations were equipped youth to enable them to perform their tasks well. They have developed the following points:
- Ethics in the workplace and makes a good leader
- Tasks and strategies to recruit young workers: Challenges and Opportunities
- Role of youth in decision-making bodies
These young people worked on the resolutions which will be their guide for the next 4 years. These resolutions stresses the importance of education, health and safety and recruitment
They pledged to do their best to improve the situation of youth in decision-making bodies and to recruit more young people to the union.
These young people have benefited throughout the activity from the experience of Elizabeth Denyoh, President of UNI Africa Young, a member of this organization.
UNI affiliates present at the opening promised to do so by installing them as National Youth Committee recommends that the UNI.
