With the final verdict awarded by the Turkish Supreme Court on 24 July 2012, the struggle of TESCO KiPA workers and their union Tez-Koop-Is which started back in 2003 has been concluded in the favour of the workers and union.



The court ruled that TEZ-KOOP·Is is the authorised union at TESCO KiPA workplaces in Turkey. Hence, TESCO KiPA workers' organising efforts has taken its place as a significant achievement for the Turkish and for the global labour movement and represents a real break-through for UNI Commerce Global Union.



Following the decision workers held a meeting in Ankara on 14 August to celebrate and to start preparations for the process of Collective Bargaining.



TESCO KiPA CEO Jeff Adams has informed all workers that the company will respect the court's decision and that TESCO KiPA will enter into negotiations with the representatives of Tez Koop İş Union on issues such as wages, benefits and working conditions.



Workers at TESCO KiPA and their union Tez-Koop-Is have expressed their gratitude for all the support they received during their struggle from UNI and the members of the UNI Tesco Global Union Alliance.



Representatives from Turkey will report about their victory at the next meeting of the UNI Tesco Global Union Alliance which will be held on 30/31 October 2012 in Nyon.
