With 2.2 million employees, 10,000 stores in 28 countries on five continents, and 100,000 global suppliers, Walmart’s workforce is only smaller than the U.S. Department of Defense and the Chinese army.



A company that affects workers globally requires workers to unite on a global level. The UNI Global Walmart Alliance brings together retail workers from around the world, joining together to push Walmart to raise its standards and ensure respect for its workers

Walmart’s business model is predicated on securing the lowest costs in every element of its business.



While the company spends millions on advertising its Every Day Low Prices to shoppers,

Walmart’s pitch to investors is that the company’s foundation is Every Day Low Costs. This model has deeply negative economic ramifications for workers at all stages of the business—at farms, factories, and warehouses as well as in the company’s 10,000 stores

around the world.



Walmart has a long history of disrespecting workers’ rights in North America, and UNI affiliates report that the company is increasingly pushing to export its anti-worker agenda to other countries where it operates. UNI estimates that excluding China and

Mexico, a mere 7% of Walmart workers are union members.”
