Jones, author of the best-selling book, “Chavs: The Demonization of the Working Class, urged the UNI affiliates to continue to show strong international solidarity and offer a coherent alternative. He called for an end to the cynical policy of nationalising debts whilst privatising profits and said current politics were about divide and rule and exploiting the crisis to attack unions, workers and the public sector.



Jones who also works for a UK union think-tank pointed out the stark reality across Europe. In Greece the suicide rate has doubled since the beginning of crisis and in Spain more than half of young people are unemployed.
