Last night’s report on ARD television dealt with serious allegations being made against DP DHL outside of German where its headquartered. UNI Global Union and its partner, the International Transport Workers’ Federation, are campaigning to force DP DHL to treat its workers fairly across its global operation..

ARD television reported among other abuses that 20 workers were dismissed for attempting to organise a union. Sacked workers remain on peaceful pickets for more than 200 days, outside of DHL Turkey warehouses.

Alan Tate, UNI Campaign Director told ARD television that, “UNI has filed a OECD complaint against DP DHL and taken it to the German government to highlight the litany of alleged abuses from Norway and Turkey to Columbia and Indonesia. We will speak to DP DHL only if they are prepared to answer these serious allegations and ensure their corporate social responsibility is applied globally.”

DHL in Turkey is also accused of forcing its workers to join a newly established ‘union’ and leave the ITF affiliate union Tumtis. Tumtis officials say they witnessed workers being intimidated into joining the new ‘union’.
