Late last year, TeliaSonera proposed a cost-savings program of 2 billion SEK, which would also lead to the loss of 2,000 jobs in the group. On 31 January, UNI ICTS convened the Nordic unions in TeliaSonera to a meeting in Stockholm to exchange information and experiences and to plan a unified response to the layoffs.



The announced layoffs were not preceded by consultation with the national unions, and the company has also not provided the unions with complete information about the implementation of the redundancies. The unions believe that there are other and better ways to cut costs than to solely focus on laying off employees, and called on the company to listen to its employees and their union representatives to find alternatives.



During the meeting the global organizing efforts in the company were also discussed, and it was agreed that a Global Framework Agreement with the company is now more relevant than ever.



All the Nordic unions that participated in the meeting underscored the importance of working closely together, and planned further cooperation and additional Nordic TeliaSonera meetings.
