German corporation law, the Aktiengesetz, requires all public companies (Aktiengesellschaften) to have two boards: a management board called a Vorstand and a supervisory board called an Aufsichtsrat. The supervisory board of Deutsche Post DHL is composed of 20 members, 10 of which are elected by the shareholders, the other 10 being employee representatives. The supervisory board is intended to provide a monitoring role and supervise all activities of the company all over the world.
The presentation of the ver.di candidates started with the movie of the international Trade Union Federations UNI and ITF and emphasized the importance of supervising the behaviour of Deutsche Post DHL outside of Germany by the board members and the need for international solidarity. The misbehaviour of Deutsche Post DHL in Turkey was a central topic of the speeches. Deutsche Post DHL actively acts against Trade Unions organising in the company and dismissed several workers because of their membership at the Turkish union Tümtis. Rolf Bauermeister asked all employees of Deutsche Post DHL to support the international activities of the trade unions and support the workers in other countries in their fight for trade union rights and proper collective agreements. Andrea Kocsis, vice-president of ver.di and president for the sector post in ver.di underlined the fact that being organised in a trade union is a human right and should be guaranteed all over the world.
The delegates of Deutsche Post DHL elected all ver.di representatives with great majority. This means that the 10 workers representatives in the supervisory board of Deutsche Post DHL are unionised by 100% and actively involved in the national and international trade union work. The international trade union federation UNI Global Union congratulates the new elected ver.di team and wishes all the best in the difficult work to monitor all activities everywhere the company is active. In cooperation with the European and international trade unions and the European Works Council, this is another important part of our global delivery network.
