Today, CUT from Chile, together with 86 social and student organisations, call for a general strike demanding a new public solidarity and distributional social security system, putting an end to the AFPs’ profit making. They will also be raising their voices for free and quality public education. The Chilean workers claim that the political agenda in an election year must include social and labour issues that are repeatedly swept under the carpet.



Furthermore, today in Brazil, all the union centrals called for the National Day of Struggle, with a common agenda that demands the reduction of the working hours to 40 hours per week, without loss of pay and a reduction in outsourcing. The National Day of Strugggle will also lead demands for 10% of the GDP to be spent on the educational system, a quality public transport system and agricultural reform, among other issues.



UNI Americas, through its affiliates in Brazil and Chile, will be in the streets, in the throats and demands of the workers in our beloved “Patria Grande” (common motherland).
