Prosegur workers win in Peru!

Luis Cardenas Velazquez, General Secretary of the Prosegur union in Peru said it was a great victory,
"Today we are celebrating the first collective agreement at Prosegur in Peru. This is something historic because here at Prosegur in Peru we have not had a union for 32 years.`
After a four day strike the company recognized the union and began negotiating with its representatives. Five days in which the workers showed discipline and a determination to pursue their legitimate demands but also a willingness to negotiate and enter into dialogue with the company to find a joint solution.
"We hope that this is the start of a new era that will enable us to defend our rights and to be able to work with dignity. We will continue to do that in unity and in this way improve our working conditions and have a much better quality of life", said Luis Cardenas Velazquez.
The strike received the support of UNI and the solidarity of Prosegur unions around the world.
Marvin Largaespada , Director of UNI Americas for Property Services, was in Lima during the whole struggle.
"We are proud of the ability of our colleagues to organize and very happy that this conflict has ended through dialogue and hope that this will be the norm for the future," he said.
The union demands below have been successfully achieved.
1 Reinstatement of a worker to his work station
2. Compensation for 5 workers in the amount of 30.000 soles for each
3. Bank of hours for trade union efforts.
4.Periodic Medical Examination
5.. Sanitation and cleaning of armoured vehicles
6.. Deduction and delivery of dues to the union
7. Improving the amount of per diem
8. Improvement in the bond of power
9. Respect for freedom of association
The level of the wage increase is still a point of negotiation .
Adriana Rosenzvaig, Regional Secretary of UNI Americasw said, `I congratulate the workers on their determination to fight for their trade union rights and their quality of life and we hope that Prosegur listens to the workers in Paraguay and Colombia, who continue to call for justice."
UNI General Secretary Philip Jennings said, `It is time for Prosegur to listen and start dialogue everywhere. It is time for this company to respect the dignity of the workers. It is time and I say to Prosegur :- UNI Americas and UNI Global Union are ready for dialogue"
