The 4th UNI Commerce Global Conference will be opened by the Argentine Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Carlos Tomoda.
The meeting, being held at the historic Teatro Tango Porteño in downtown Buenos Aires, brings together UNI commerce affiliates from around the world.
UNI Head of Commerce, Alke Boessiger, said, “This conference comes at a pivotal moment for retail workers. It’s a time for action not just words. UNI Commerce is delivering for its affiliates and their members, no more so than here in Latin America. Organising at Carrefour in Columbia shows what can be achieved against the odds when we work together. We have made great strides with Walmart too across this region. Globally we are breaking through and at this meeting we will plan our next steps to make sure that all retailer workers are included and not left out in the companies’ quest to maximise profits.”
The meeting takes place over 3 days and will include discussions on the Walmart, IKEA, Carrefour campaigns as well other topics including precarious work. UNI Commerce will launch a report on Precarious Work tomorrow/Thursday.
Delegates will also debate how to more readily engage youth across the sector.
