Workers at Teletech have unanimously ratified the deal struck with the 018 directory contractor following lightning industrial action earlier this month.

The deal means workers finally have a collective after more than seven months of negotiation and a pay increase of 3% over the next five months and the introduction of overtime rates at T1.5.

EPMU organiser Laurel Reid says the deal is a big step for members at Teletech.

"After negotiating for so long and not getting anywhere members took a stand and went out and the result has been a success."

"Since the industrial action we've doubled union membership to 120," says Reid, "and that's been mainly due to people seeing what can be achieved by standing together."

"We think this will be a good move for Teletech as well because they've had real trouble retaining staff and the terms and conditions provided by this collective should help keep people there."

"The members who took strike action were brilliant," says Reid, "and they really showed what can be achieved by working collectively."

Teletech provides Telecom's 018 directory services to via the Yellow Pages group.
