The Zambia Union of Financial Institutions and Allied Workers (ZUFIAW) has organised workers in First National Bank (FNB), one of the four major South African banks that has entered the Zambian market.



In an address to workers at FNB Ndola branch, ZUFIAW General Secretary Joyce Nonde said companies always focused on investment and profits. “As a union we are interested in getting a better deal for your sweat.”



She said collective bargaining was at the heart of trade union work and that ZUFIAW was interested in ensuring that branch officials in FNB Zambia were knowledgeable about labour laws, recognition agreement and collective bargaining agreements. “We are an enlightened union because of workers’ education,” she said.



She highlighted some of her union’s work such as workers’ education, advocacy on national issues, lobbying, gender equality and women’s empowerment programme, informal economy organizing and HIV/AIDS
