New report: EU's investment Court System in TTIP and CETA does not protect governments’ right to regulate

The European Commission claims that the new approach on investment protection – outlined in the Investment Court System (ICS) introduced in TTIP, CETA and the EU-Vietnam FTA – fully protects the governments’ right to regulate.

World Water Day: Investing in water services is good for job creation, human health and the economy

According to the new UN World Water Development Report on Water and Jobs launched today in Geneva at the ILO, opportunities for employment growth and decent jobs are contingent upon the sustainable management of water resources and the provision of water-related services.

For UNI Global Union General Secretary Philip Jennings: “safe water is a human right. According to the new Report launched today on the World Water Day, every hour 38 workers die from water-related diseases. Access to water and sanitation services is critical to maintaining a healthy and productive workforce.”

UNI Global Union endorses the International Trade Union Confederation Statement on the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP)

As more than 20,000 New Zealanders protested against the signing of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement in Auckland, UNI Global Union endorsed the ITUC Statement which was published on the 4th of February urging governments to protect workers rights, people and the planet.

The TPPA is a far-reaching “trade deal” that was negotiated in secret and finalized by 12 countries on the 5th of October 2015.

The TPPA is between Australia, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, the US, Vietnam, Chile, Brunei, Singapore and New Zealand.  If ratified, it would cover 40% of the world’s economy and set the foundation for trade in e-commerce, financial services, property rights, medicine and much more, impacting the lives of millions of workers.

TransPacific Partnership agreement and other trade deals under public scrutiny as recent study shows damaging impacts on jobs

Today, the government of New Zealand confirmed TPP trade deal signing in Auckland on February 4th. Opponents are planning a protest on that day as a recent study reveals potential major impacts of TPP on job losses.
