Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh and BGMEA Sign Agreement on Transition to RMG Sustainability Council

On 14 January 2020, representatives of the BGMEA and the Steering Committee of the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh (Accord), met in Dhaka to finalise the establishment of the “RMG Sustainability Council (RSC)” by signing a Transition Agreement and agreeing Articles of Association for the RSC.

E-commerce report shows Amazon model is unsustainable

A new report commissioned by UNI Commerce gives a global picture of e-commerce today and marks out Amazon for its unstainable business model.

The study “E-Commerce: Recent Trends and Impact on Labour” includes a survey of 15 UNI Global Union affiliates in 13 countries representing hundreds of thousands of workers in the retail sector.

The report shows the share of e-commerce in total global retail has doubled in the last five years to 15.5%, and this percentage is expected to grow annually by 8.9% until 2023.

Suny-Samsung workers in Israel declare dispute

Workers at Suny-Samsung, an exclusive importer of Samsung Mobile products in Israel, declared an official labour dispute with the company on 10 December after negotiations with management for a first collective agreement broke down.

Some 260 workers joined UNI Global Union Israeli affiliate, Histadrut, a year ago in a bid to challenge an unfair wage system and poor treatment from Suny-Samsung executives.

UNI launches guide to address challenges of LGBTI+ workers

This guide provides UNI member unions with a glossary of terms, a better understanding of the causes of LGBTI+ discrimination and how it occurs in the workplace; as well as providing suggestions as to how we, as unions and as workers can help.

Statement by the World Players Association on the World Anti-Doping Code and the human rights of athletes

The true impact of the global anti-doping system on athletes must be fully understood by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) if it is serious about protecting the human rights of athletes. That study should be completed by the time the new World Anti-Doping Code (Code) takes effect on 1 January 2021.

On #HumanRightsDay, World Players Association launches the first global study on child athletes' experiences

Geneva, 10 December 2019 – On this year's #HumanRightsDay - and celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child - the World Players Association, in collaboration with Loughborough University, has launched the first global Census on Athlete Rights Experiences (Project CARE). The pilot study is the first to look into the childhood experiences in organised sport of current professional athletes associated with the worldwide player union movement.
