UNI Property services, with funding from FES, recently organised a ‘blitz week’ with the Zambian Union of Security and Allied Workers union (ZUSAW). ZUSAW is working to build a strong, powerful and pro-active union that is fighting for better working conditions for all security workers in Zambia. To do so, ZUSAW needs to increase its' power by building up worker power through trade union membership.

UNI Property Services welcomes new President in biggest ever sector meeting

The biggest ever meeting of UNI Global Property Services unions took place in Chicago this week.

Affiliates from around the world attended the global meeting, hosted by SEIU Local 1, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the sector. There was representation for workers from more countries than ever before including India, Nepal, New Zealand and Zambia.

Youth and gig economy workers key to growth say leaders at Swedish union congress

Appealing to young workers and those with informal working arrangements are crucial elements in the international growth of the trade union movement, say Deputy General Secretary of UNI Global Union Alke Boessiger and president of Sweden’s largest trade union UNIONEN, Martin Linder.

The pair are currently at UNIONEN’s congress in Malmö. UNIONEN, the biggest trade union in Sweden, has seen consistent membership growth over the past 10 years.

“The union pledge is shaping the future – seeking a common direction in a changing world,” is the theme of this year’s congress.

Care workers demand better conditions on World Day of Decent Work

On this year’s World Day of Decent Work (WDDW), UNI Global Union and the affiliates of UNICARE are joining the call for investment in the care economy and respect for the workers that sustain it.

WDDW will be marked for the twelfth time on Monday, 7 October, and this year’s theme puts pressure on national governments and multinational corporations to invest in care by tackling the growing challenges facing workers and patients.
