UNI Global Union, IndustriALL and BWI sign global framework agreement with the renewable materials company Stora Enso​

The three global unions today signed a global framework agreement (GFA) with the renewable materials company Stora Enso at the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva, in the presence of ILO Director General Guy Ryder. Observer signatures were made by the presidents of the Swedish Paper Workers’ Union, the Swedish Union of Forestry, Wood and Graphical Workers’, and the Finnish Paper Workers’ Union.

UNI affiliate GMB scores major victory against Amazon firm as shortchanged workers get back £20,000

UNI affiliate GMB has scored another groundbreaking victory against national logistics company, UK Express, for workers delivering for Amazon. UKXD has agreed to settle claims at 100% rather than risk court hearings and further claims.

GMB brought claims asserting that like Uber, Hermes and other drivers, UK Express drivers are wrongly defined as ‘self-employed’.

GMB argues that the terms of UKXD drivers’ contracts and the way in which they work (solely delivering for Amazon) demonstrate that they should actually be classed as employees on the grounds that:

Atos Romania workers prepare to strike

The Romanian IT union SITT has initiated a labor dispute in Atos Romania after unsuccessful attempts to negotiate a new collective agreement. See the union's press release below:

Employees of Atos Romania decided to initiate a labour dispute after the unsuccessful attempts of management to find a satisfactory solution in the negotiations of a new collective agreement. Atos employees are represented by the Timisoara IT Union - SITT.

International labour movement brings message of peace and solidarity to the Vatican

An international trade union meeting took place at the Vatican, Rome, in November upon the invitation of Pope Francis. In recent times the Pope has invited a number of civil society groups to the Vatican to consider their views on the current and worrying state of the world in terms of climate, inequality, work, care, peace and economic and social justice.
