U.S. fast food workers went on strike this week demanding higher wages from the likes of McDonalds and Burger King.

Fast food restaurants have long sought profit at the expense of the health and social conditions of their workers who deserve fair pay and decent work for reaping millions for their employers.

Workers in 150 United States cities were joined in protests by colleagues from at least 33 countries and 80 cities. It’s the latest campaign in a year and a half long battle for higher wages. The U.S. strikes come amidst calls for a raise in the U.S. minimum wage in a country suffering one of the world’s worst rates of economic inequality. Fast-food workers are seeking wages of $15 an hour and the right to unionize without retaliation, union leaders said.
