The rapid transformation of the workplace with the influence of Digitalization brings numerous opportunities for women; said Ms. Wasantha Senevirathne, Deputy Director, Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka. She was the Keynote Speaker at the commemorative meeting organized by UNI Sri Lanka Women’s Council to mark the International Women’s Day. Ms. Senevirathne shared her insights on the topic “Digitalization and Opportunities for Women in 21st Century”.

Her message to the packed audience at the Bank of Ceylon, the auditorium was to encourage women to keep pace with the technological change and acquire the necessary skills. She added that the new digital and mobile platforms can help women to manage their dual responsibilities efficiently, as technology shortens long hours of work, to work tasks. Moreover, she highlighted that women get more opportunities to voice and influence social dialogues to champion for gender equality, and fight against discriminations; stressing the need for women to take up leadership in trade unions. 

Chandrika Eladaththa, President of UNI SLAC Women’s committee welcomes the participants for the meeting. Ms. Bhagya Senevirathne – Operation Executive at MAS Holdings, Sri Lanka - UNI Apro/JPGU Scholar- also shared her inspiring story- her single handed achievements- at the invitation of UNI SLAC women’s committee.  Bhagya valued the international solidarity amongst the trade unions to extend help to those who are in need; speaking from her own experiences and thanked UNI Apro for helping her to achieve life ambitions. Sameepa Rajapakse, a member of the women’s committee representing the FBOSL proposed the vote of thanks to the speakers and the participants at the meeting held in Bank of Ceylon, Auditorium on 10th March 2017.
