This week and last, thousands of members in the postal services, forwarding and logistics division of UNI affiliate ver.di have taken up temporary strike action as their union negotiates a new pay package with Deutsche Post. After two initial rounds of talks, Deutsche Post has yet to meet ver.di's demands for increased pay and security for its members.



Ver.di is calling for a competitive offer from the employer, including a 6% pay rise for the 132,000 career workers in Deutsche Post and at least €142 per month pay rise for trainees and apprentices and additional guarantees for the 32,000 civil servants they represent in Deutsche Post.



In rolling warning strikes across Germany in the past two weeks, thousands of ver.di members have walked off the job. As ver.di vice-chairman and chief negotiator Andrea Kocsis noted in a release, their actions show "ver.di members are behind the demands of their union. Now it's Deutsche Post's turn. They must submit a competitive offer; employees are expecting one."



The third round of contract talks will recommence on Thursday 25 April.
